Manchester United currently sits 10th in the Premier League with 12 points, a rough start having played 8 games, won 4, and lost 4. This is Manchester United's worst start to a Premier League season since the 2019/20 season. (The Analyst Manchester United’s Worst Starts to a Season | The Analyst). The question we are wondering is what exactly is going on? Who can be to blame?
Erik Ten Haag is not having a good start at all in his second season managing United. He has had the worst start possible to this year's Champions League campaign, with 2 losses in 2 games. We here at The Footy Corner can't help but believe Ten Haag is the problem at United, and before people come at us for saying he has hardly had time at the club or he is brilliant, we agree but hear us out.
Ten Haag has made a wonderful signing of 20-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund, but we think the other signings have been questionable, to say the least. the signing of Sofyan Amrabaat does not make sense at all, in today's world of football people dish out $100 million for players who played 10 decent games in their career. Amrabaat is experienced but the summary of his career is a couple decent performances in a very lucky World Cup run.
United lacks true experience in the team and cannot seem to get things working. The signing of Casemiro was a good start but the team needs major upgrades around the team. The defense is lackluster and if they want to go far they need to bring in some big names in January, Johnny Evans and Harry Maguire will not cut it if they are looking to finish top 5 in the Premier League, the group stage of The Champions League might even be a challenge for them.
Overall we believe Man United needs to make some strong signings, Ten Haag creating a stronger and more unified team in the dressing room, and overall more confidence on the ball. United have great players, they just need to figure out how to play together. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
